Due to massive objections and intense protests from people, the public comment period for the provision of permit to allow a company to dig an exploratory well in Golden Gate Estates was extended until March 31.

A lot of protesters wearing t-shirts with American flag designs swamped the Golden Gate Community Center last Tuesday. Among the protesters are cancer survivors saying that injection well pollutes waters and poison human and there are even Native Americans invoking spirit Gods while holding a feather.

Protesters put on stickers saying “Don’t Trash Our Water” while others campaigners brought posters saying, “Please Stop Our BP” and “Protect the Gulf – Oil and Water Don’t Mix”.

“Prepare people and help people to cope” is what Michael Reagen said to help minimize problems in the rising identity theft that is plaguing the county. The metro area of Naples holds the third rank during the year 2013 in the country for complaints on identity theft.

Collier Anti-Identity Theft & Fraud Alert Group was born out of the need to prevent fraud or scams from growing out of hand. Michael Reagen led this anti-fraud group made of business individuals, government officials, and community leaders.

According to one of the members, Carrie Kerskie, what happened to 70 million Target customers was only the beginning. She mentioned that identity theft problems could grow out of proportions if left unchecked.

Blending in is what these newest addition to the Collier County sheriff’s squad cars. The decals on the newest squad cars are barely visible. The markings are on the sides of the car but due to its dark design, it is barely even there.

These cruisers are patrolling the streets for almost a month now. However, unlike traditionally marked patrols, it has low sirens and subtle decals on the side. The name “ghost cars” fit the description since it can sneak up on speeders and drunken drivers.

Do you love nature and going on adventures? Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park ranger programs for March are something that you should not miss out. Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park is located Gulfshore Drive in Naples, Florida.

The only cost of visiting the park is the entrance fee. $2 is being charged for walkers and bicyclers. A $4 fee will be charged per vehicle with only one person. If there 2 or more individuals in the vehicle then they will need pay a fee of $6. With such minimal cost, you can enjoy the natural beauty of Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park.

Smoking has been a controversial issue for many. Lately, health risks are being highly considered by most of the populace across the globe. More and more individuals are now aware of the health perils resulting from abusive smoking. It has been proven by various studies that second smoking is even more hazardous.

In this line of thought, the Homeowner’s Association of Laguna Village in Fiddler’s Creek is considering a total ban in smoking. There are currently 128 properties in this upscale community and residents have been complaining cigarette smokes drifting from one lanai to another.

A Naples boy set a new record last Saturday when his painting was sold for $200,000 at the Wine & Food Fest – the highest ever in the history of the festival. The owner of the painter is Jay Aponte, a 9-year old boy who has leukemia.

Jay Aponte was diagnosed 2 years ago. Together with other kids who have acute illnesses like cancer, the event raised money through biddings on the child artists’ paintings. All the money are donated back to the Golisano Children’s Hospital were the kids get various medical services and help.

Jay was guided by Ellen Sheppard, an award-winning artist on his masterpiece. Using watercolors and colored pencils, Jay painted Lightning McQueen, a famous car-character from the movie “Cars” by Pixar.

Exciting news in Naples! The debut of a famous Spanish restaurant chain on American soil will be in the Park Shore area. Construction for the Spain-based restaurant, Lamoraga, has already started and is expected to hire about 25 to 35 people for the restaurant.

The franchise owners discovered the restaurant when they visited Spain and absolutely loved the foods and the whole concept. Aside from Naples, the franchise owners are also planning to open branches in other locations all over Florida.

Charles Shumway, general manager of the project, said that the menus that will be offered in the Naples branch will be somehow similar to the original concept but with a slight variation.

Tourism is clearly booming in Florida. Naples Governor Rick Scott announced that tourism to the sunshine state had increased by 3.5% in 2013.

More tourism means more jobs, stated the governor, who made the announcement at the Universal Orlando Resort. The resort is planning to add a Wizarding World of Harry Potter Diagon Alley and widening the CityWalk entertainment complex. Bill Davis, the president of Universal Orlando Resort expressed his excitement at being able to contribute to the economy of the state.

The record high numbers are due to the 11.5 million global and 3.7 million Canadian tourists who thronged the state in 2013. Accommodation revenues increased by 8.2% compared to 2012.

Local DJ “Big Mama” will be walking around fifty couples through a ceremony of commitment at 7:30PM Frida (Valentine’s Day). The event is open to all couples and will take place at Ter-Tini’s, a local bar on Crystal Drive. Registration for the event is mandatory to participate.

The Snug Harbor Marina will have a piece of world history docked at it this weekend beginning the 13th and lasting through Monday, the 17th. The ship is a replica of Ferdinand Magellan’s ship, the Nao Victoria. The Nao Victoria was the only ship of five to successfully circumnavigate the globe.
