“Prepare people and help people to cope” is what Michael Reagen said to help minimize problems in the rising identity theft that is plaguing the county. The metro area of Naples holds the third rank during the year 2013 in the country for complaints on identity theft.
Collier Anti-Identity Theft & Fraud Alert Group was born out of the need to prevent fraud or scams from growing out of hand. Michael Reagen led this anti-fraud group made of business individuals, government officials, and community leaders.
According to one of the members, Carrie Kerskie, what happened to 70 million Target customers was only the beginning. She mentioned that identity theft problems could grow out of proportions if left unchecked.
Collier Anti-Identity Theft & Fraud Alert Group wants to identify common individuals, like homeowners and such, by hosting events to provide awareness on data breaches and various forms of scams. She also added that there are number of fraudulent methods that can be quite deceiving and hard to identify. The only thing to combat such situations is to arm one’s self with proper knowledge and the right tools. She also added that scams are constantly changing and awareness and knowledge are your best weapons.
