Naples area is one of the popular choices when looking for a great home in Southwest Florida region. One of the largest communities in Naples developed for residential purposes is the Golden Gate Estates. This large community was acquired and developed in 1960 and was planned to become one of the largest subdivisions in Naples. Golden Gate Estates covers a total of 80 square miles including dry lands and wet lands or swamplands.

The developers of Golden Gate Estates planned to plot estate properties with at least 1 acre in size. However, due to some issues in land development, the Collier County required the plotted lands must be divided into estate lands not less than 2 and a half acres. With these large properties, homeowners can build whatever type of structure they want from large mansions, single-family homes, and even barnyards for animals, especially horses.

Location

The whole community of Golden Gate Estates is situated east of north and central Naples, just few minutes north of Interstate 75. Collier Boulevard borders the community in the west, Everglades Parkway in the south, and Immokalee road in the north.

Lifestyle In Golden Gate Estates

Golden Gate Estates is so large that the eastern area of the community is already miles away from Central Naples and the beaches while the western areas are just minutes away. This is why most developments are located in the western portion while some of the eastern portion is not yet occupied.

The local workforce owns large percentage of the properties in the community. Lots are very affordable in Golden Gate Estates making it a good option for those individuals and families looking for a quiet community outside the metropolitan area that offers affordable homes. Families can own large lots here for a reasonable price that will suit tight budgets and then grow some animals and build various infrastructures.

There are no home associations or other organizations that control and provide limit to whatever developments homeowners want so basically, homeowners and residents can do pretty much whatever they want with their own lands.

Home Options And Values

Nowadays, prospective homebuyers can buy lots in Golden Gate Estates with size as small as 1.14 acres to larger land sizes up to 10 acres. Homeowners can build large mansions, relatively average single-family homes, and even smaller homes depending on the homebuyer’s preferences and needs.

Large animals are allowed in the community (2 horses per acre) this is why a lot of horse lovers buy and build their barnyard or small farms in this region because they can have animals in Golden Gate Estates. Residents can also use and bring whatever type of vehicles they have like ATVs, pickup trucks, and RVs around the community.

If you want a home that has a rural feel but still somehow close to the city, then opt for the properties on the western side of the community or those that are near the Collier Boulevard and the urban estates. The proximity of the homes near the metropolitan area makes some of the properties in the western portion a bit more expensive. The further the property from the western side, the more affordable they become. Therefore, if you are looking for the most affordable properties, then you might find these properties near or at the eastern area of the community.

Another important aspect of the properties that homebuyers should remember is the dry and wet lands. As mentioned before, large portion of the community is made up of swamplands. These swamplands may be covered with water during rainy seasons. Homeowners who have these kinds of lands may need to fill the home site and some areas with soil and rocks to raise the land and prevent water from covering the home site during rainy season.

Homeowners who have purchased a land that is completely or mostly dry will have little to worry since they can do whatever building project they want like adding a private swimming pool, basketball court, a tennis court, a guesthouse, and any landscaping project they want.
